Meals

The school catering team makes every effort to provide carefully balanced and nutritious meals each day. Cooked meals are made on site and eaten in the normal rooms under the supervision of Room Staff assisted by Midday Supervisory Assistants (MSA's).

Dolce School Catering provide our lunchtime meals from the school kitchen at Parish Church Primary School.

Parents can pay for their child's meals by cheque or directly through the bank. Cheques should be made payable to Brougham Street Nursery School. Meals can be paid for in advance, weekly or within your monthly invoice.

We strongly feel that by eating a hot meal together, sitting at tables and using the appropriate cutlery, children develop good life long habits. All meals are provided in the classroom, so that children are eating in familiar surroundings.

Snack

Children are offered  a choice of water or milk and a small snack; usually a portion of fruit twice each day in each room. Wherever possible snack is linked to learning so children may be asked to count out 4 grapes, or 1 piece of toast or cut a piece of bread into half or quarter, into a square, a rectangle, a circle or a triangle.

Fine motor skills are also developed as children learn how to butter their own toast or chop fruit as they help to prepare snack. Children learn how to drink from an open cup and how to pour skillfully.

Parents are asked not to send in additional drinks or snacks for their child.

Meal Times

Breakfast

Breakfast is served between 8am and 8.30am, our children have a continental breakfast at breakfast time including fruit and boiled eggs.

Lunch

Lunch is served at 11.45am, our lunches during term time are provided for us from the kitchens based in Parish Church School.

Tea

Tea is served at 4pm and is prepared on the premises by our fully qualified chef Bev. The meals are on a two week rotation and they change at the start of each term.

Allergies

We have a number of children in the school who experience a severe reactions to nuts, dairy and other food stuff.

Brougham Street Community Nursery School makes every effort to be a nut-free zone. Under no circumstances should parents send in items which contain any nut items.

We also ask that parents do not bring in birthday cake to share with the children, this is because we have over 100 children in the nursery school and this could literally mean that we end up having birthday cake every day!
